Pittsburgh Filmmakers Announces
New Gallery Exhibits
(Pittsburgh, PA) – Filmmakers Galleries present two new exhibitions, on view February 24 through April 2, 2006. In the Outer Gallery is Photovoices, a group show by ten Latino artists featuring photography and video, and in the New Gallery is a Faculty Show from the faculty of Pittsburgh Filmmakers’ School of Film, Photography and Digital Media. The opening night reception for the Faculty Show will be held on Friday evening, February 24 at 7:00pm, and the reception for Photovoices will be on Saturday evening, February 25 at 7:00pm. They are both free and open to the public.
Photovoices is an exhibition of images and ideas by an active group of Latino photographers, videographers, installation artists, and health advocates who seek to illustrate the themes and strengths of Pittsburgh’s Latino Community, widely regarded as “invisible” in Western Pennsylvania. The Pittsburgh Latino Health Advocacy and Leadership Program (LHAL) participants are catalysts for Latino health improvement. With the support of the Governor’s Advisory Commission on Latino Affairs (GACLA) and the Pennsylvania Department of Health, LHAL has initiated several projects of significance, including health promotion/education, expansion of clinical capacity, and a formal community health assessment. Photovoices is the first of the four-part LHAL project.
The Faculty Show features recent work culled from a collection of photography, film, video, and installations produced by Filmmakers’ diverse faculty of working artists.
Filmmakers Galleries are located at 477 Melwood Avenue, North Oakland. Open Monday through Friday, noon to 5:00, and weekend evenings. For more information call 412-681-5449 or visit www.pghfilmmakers.org.
